Couch to 5K Programme
A structured programme designed for anyone that is new to running, or wanting to return following injury or a time away from running or if you're simply looking for a new way to keep fit and healthy.

Our 2026 Programme Starts Tuesday 14th April
Join our Couch to 5K programme to build confidence, improve your fitness, and enjoy a supportive community that helps you go from beginner to 5K finisher at your own pace.

When is it?
Each Tuesday there will be an organised evening run led by a team of England Athletics qualified run leaders.

Where?
We will meet most Tuesdays at Whitby Leisure Centre at 5.55pm. The activity will start with a warm up, structured programme of walking and running, then followed with a cool down.

The Couch 2-5K Plan
Our programme of activity lasts for 10 weeks, finishing with a 5k run. As we meet weekly, there will be some homework runs to help you get to your 5k goal.

How Much Does it Cost?
It is priced at £10 which includes England Athletics insurance.

What do I Need?
Wear whatever feels comfortable for you to run in; tracksuit bottoms, trainers and a supportive bra if you need one.

Data Protection
When you become a member of or renew your membership with Whitby Running Club you will
automatically be registered as a member of England Athletics. We will provide England Athletics
with your personal data which they will use to enable access to an online portal for you (called
myAthletics). England Athletics will contact you to invite you to sign into and update your
myAthletics portal (which, amongst other things, allows you to set and amend your privacy
settings). If you have any questions about the continuing privacy of your personal data when it is
