Frequently Asked Questions
How do I Know which Level is for Me?
Level One
Suitable for everyone. If you are completely new to running, just completed a Couch25k programme, maybe returning from an injury or want to work on improving your stamina we would recommend you try out level 1.
We run 2-3 miles on a Monday evening.
Level Two
Suitable for everyone. Like Level 1 but with a little more distance added into the evening session. We use a combination of intervals and hill sprints to add some variety to the sessions.
The group runs together and loopbacks are used to ensure no-one is left behind.
We run between 3-4 miles (sometimes up to 5 with loopbacks) on a Monday and Wednesday evening.
Everyone is welcome to both sessions. You can choose to move from one level to another. All of the sessions are managed through Spond, an event management app, so each week you can choose which evening (or both evenings) to attend and at what level.
What Should I Wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable to run in. We suggest a comfy pair of trainers, which do not need to be expensive. We advise that you wear High Vis during the dark nights, as we run on footpaths and it is essential we are seen. Also please bring a head or chest torch if you have one.
How do I Join?
Easy just fill out our membership form here which will go direct to our Membership Secretary.
Once you become a member, we will send you details of how to sign up to the Spond app, so that you get invited to weekly run sessions.
What Are the Costs?
Adults costs are £25 for the year - £5 of this goes to the club and £20 to England Athletics. If you would like to just attend our monthly socials the cost is £5 per year. If you are already a member of another club and would like to join as a second claim member the annual fee is £5.
What do I get for my Membership?
The annual fee will give you the option to attend twice weekly club runs led by our England Athletics trained run leaders (excluding some Bank Holidays), plus attend our monthly club socials, where both levels run together.
The England Athletics part of the membership cost provides you discounts on UKA accredited races, as well as corporate partnership and product offers.
Being affiliated with England Athletics means you are joining a club that puts its members first, their safety and wellbeing.
As a club we also offer member discounts for sports websites, for sportswear and/or equipment.
Can I wear my headphones?
Sorry we do not allow headphones (including bone conductors) to our club nights. This is for safety so that all members can hear instructions and traffic. Also we are a sociable bunch who like to chat. (Chatting is optional if you prefer).
Can I have a trial?
Yes of course you are welcome to attend 2 club sessions to see if we are for you. If you want to come along for a trial session, just drop us an email on whitbyrunningclub@gmail.com or message us on either our Facebook or Instagram page. We will need some emergency contact details from you before attending a trial session.
